Marysville, MI – An incident today at Marysville High School in Marysville, MI prompted school administration to issue a press release that many local parents feel is inadequate and misleading.
Marysville Schools superintendent Shawn Wightman released a statement earlier today regarding a Snapchat post made by a student, in which the student threatened to shoot up the school. The post was accompanied by a picture of a firearm and ammunition.
Per the press release from the school, officials were made aware of the post by numerous other students and their parents. The press release is very vague on the details, and many local parents believe this was intentional by the superintendent in an effort to downplay the incident.
Despite claims by students that they witnessed the suspect in possession of the weapon on school grounds, the school was never put into a lockdown. It has been reported that the student was apprehended on school property by authorities.
This incident has left many parents in the community shocked and dismayed at the response from the District, as this is not he first incident of this nature at the school.
In 2019, a 16-year-old male student was arrested after he posted a video on social media threatening to also shoot up the school. The student was ultimately charged in relation to his threatening behavior.
Details are scarce on this latest incident, but we will update this story as it continues to unfold.
