Olympic gymnastics icon, Mary Lou Retton, is currently grappling with a severe health crisis, as revealed by her daughter, McKenna Kelley, on social media, which has since been removed. Kelley took to Instagram and the fundraising platform, Spotfund, to share the heart-wrenching news and appeal for both prayers and financial support to help with the escalating medical expenses.

The Spotfund campaign, aptly named “MaryLouRettonsFight” discloses that Retton has been confined to an intensive care unit for over a week due to an uncommon type of pneumonia. The gravity of her condition is underscored by the fact that she’s currently reliant on medical assistance to breathe. As of the time of this post, the Spotfund campaign has reached over $150K, exceeding it’s initial goal of $50K.

Mary Lou Retton catapulted to fame during the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games, not just for her exceptional talent but also for her groundbreaking achievements. She clinched five medals during the event, more than any other participant. Her legendary status was further cemented when she achieved flawless scores in both the vault and floor exercises.
